First solo round-the-world sailor to attempt feat again

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston's yacht Suhaili in Neptune Court (pre-2001) Suhaili during her stay at the National Maritime Museum until 2001 Thirty-seven years after he became the first person to sail single-handed round the world without stopping, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston is to attempt the feat again this October.

Sir Robin took 312 days to complete his solo voyage in 1969 in the 32-foot yacht Suhaili, winning The Sunday Times Golden Globe Race. Now aged 67, he hopes to achieve a similar success in the Velux 5 Oceans race, which he is aiming to complete in 112 days. Participants in the gruelling three-stage race may face huge storms and waves up to 25 metres high, as well as severe isolation and sleep-deprivation.
