Elizabeth Hamilton-Eddy

Senior Painting Conservator

Elizabeth Hamilton-EddyI work in a team of painting and frame conservators looking after the Museum's collection of over 4500 oil paintings. I assess and prepare paintings for exhibition, loan out to other museums in the UK and abroad, and conserve paintings when they are in need of treatment.

Conservation treatment may include securing loose paint layers, removing surface grime and varnish, revarnishing and retouching areas of loss or damage.

The question I'm asked most often

How do I set about finding a reliable conservator to conserve my oil painting?

My answer is that The Institute of Conservation (ICON) maintain the Conservation Register, which is a list of accredited conservators, including paintings conservators, covering the UK and Ireland. You can contact ICON through their website.
