Weddings are a unique and romantic experience, each with their own distinctive personality and we have a range of venues that can reflect your own personal style and deliver a day special to you. Whether you are looking for a venue to simply hold the ceremony, reception or the evening party, or all three, Royal Museums Greenwich has it covered with a choice of five iconic and historic venues which include:
Licenced for ceremonies and receptions:
Cutty Sark is one of the world’s most famous ships, the last surviving tea clipper and the fastest and greatest of her time. In admiration of her beauty and in recognition of her fame she has been preserved for the nation and is now available as an unforgettable location for your wedding. Cutty Sark is the only place in the world where you can entertain beneath the gleaming hull of a ship. The Tween deck and Dry berth are both licenced for ceremonies so can provide a flexible and memorable backdrop to licenced ceremonies as well as evening receptions.
The Queen’s House In 2016, we will be celebrating the 400th anniversary of the Queen’s House. As part of our preparations, the house is currently closed as of 27 July 2015 and will reopen, transformed, on 4 July 2016. In the meantime, the House is temporarily unavailable for event hire. Find out more about the refurbishment project.
Built in the 17th century and steeped in history and Palladian romance, the Queen's House is a perfect wedding venue licenced for civil ceremonies and receptions. Designed by Inigo Jones for Queen Anne, wife of James I for hosting sumptuous parties, it was the first wholly Classical building of its kind in England. This former royal palace offers a variety of flexible spaces for you to create your perfect wedding. Bathed in southern light and Palladian Romance the Orangery and South Parlours are ideal for intimate ceremonies and wedding breakfasts up to 50 guests, where the Great Hall on the house’s north side provides views over the river and its original black and white marble floor provides a striking backdrop to ceremonies and dinners up to 120 guests.
Available for receptions only:
The Peter Harrison Planetarium: Set atop the hill within the leafy Royal Greenwich Park, the Peter Harrison Planetarium is a modern, versatile venue with contemporary lines and abundant light. Within the house is the charming Octagon Room, the last surviving interior designed by Sir Christopher Wren. This elegant venue is ideal for intimate wedding breakfasts. Guests can enjoy spectacular views across London and gaze at the stars with a private telescope viewing after dinner. Explore the history of time in the galleries or stand on the Meridian Line while enjoying a drinks reception at this fabulous historic venue. Please note because of the delicate world famous Harrison timepieces housed within there is no amplified music or dancing allowed however the Octagon Room can be hired in conjunction with the Planetarium where you guests can dance the night away.
Neptune Court within the National Maritime Museum: your wedding reception with up to 400 guests could begin with drinks being enjoyed on the lower deck where your guests can view the varied exhibits the Museum has to offer. Should the weather permit there is the possibility to enjoy drinks outside along the Colonnades. The Wedding Breakfast would then follow on the spectacular Upper Deck, which may be dressed in the style of your choice by your chosen accredited caterer.
