Curiosity rover celebrates 1000 days on Mars

by Colin Stuart

Its daring landing on the surface of the Red Planet in August 2012 was one of the most celebrated achievements in the history of space exploration. Now the team behind the intrepid Curiosity rover are celebrating 1000 days trawling the Martian surface. To mark the occasion they have released an image showing the rover looking back at where it came from. In those 1000 days it has managed to navigate over 10 kilometres from its landing spot near Gale Crater, the rim of which can just be seen in the far distance.

Here's to the next 1000 days!
