Flagmen of Lowestoft: Vice-Admiral Sir William Berkeley, 1639-66 Repro ID BHC2553 Berkeley was 26 and newly promoted to rear-admiral when he served in the Duke of York's squadron at the Battle of Lowestoft. At the Four Days Fight, in 1666, he fought with great gallantry until his flagship was overwhelmed and a musket ball hit him in the throat. The Dutch later found him dead on his cabin table.
