The National Maritime Museum is hosting its first ever Fun Palace; Join us for a free pop-up festival of art, science, dance and music.

What happens when a festival organiser, a yoga teacher, a natural history curator, an LGBT history advocate, an environmentalist and a mental health practitioner takeover a Museum for one day and one day only?!

For the first time ever the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich is hosting a Fun Palace! On Saturday October the 7th expect the unexpected as the Museum becomes flooded with free music, dance, workshops, performances and digital games suitable for anyone and everyone.

The theme for the day is ‘Submerged’ so be prepared to join in on sea-shanties and explore the mysterious depths of the world’s oceans. We are also delighted that Captain Barnacles from the Octonauts is joining us and we are lucky to have author and CBBC actor Olly Pike reading from his children’s book ‘Prince Henry’.

As well as storytelling and performances throughout the day try your hand at activities and workshops suitable for all: Take a tour of our collections that will change the way you see history, make a badge that symbolises you, build a kite and learn to vogue!

It’s big, its brave and it only lasts one day.

Schedule:

10:30 - Early-birds can meet Captain Barnacles from the Octonauts crew! He’ll also be popping up around the Museum at intervals throughout the day.  Plus there’s an interactive workshop where you can build a submarine!

11:00 - South London Samba will be introducing you to the day with pieces inspired by the Museum. Followed by an A Cappella performance by the London International Choir who will be singing in the seven most spoken languages in London!

12:00-16:00 - Throughout the day the Museum will be stuffed to bursting with things to do! Create a virtual reality shipwreck, build a coral reef, hear Olly Pike read his story ‘Prince Henry’, learn about the hidden histories in our collections and design a giant rainbow kite!

16:00 - The festival will end with a final performance from South London Samba, London International Choir, Captain Barnacles and a parade around the Museum!
