Portrait of Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton, 1874–1922 by Reginald Grenville Eves, 1921. This portrait was probably painted from life, before Shackleton set off on his final voyage, the Shackleton-Rowett Antarctic Expedition, in 1921. Not long after the start of the voyage, Shackleton died of a heart attack on 15 January 1922, at Grytviken, South Georgia. Repro ID: BHC3022. Description: A half-length head and shoulders portrait facing to the right. The sitter wears a brown suit, waistcoat, white shirt and dark tie, and looks forwards to meet the gaze of the viewer. This portrait was probably painted from life, before Shackleton set off on his final voyage, the Shackleton-Rowett Antarctic Expedition, in 1921. Not long after the start of the voyage, Shackleton died of a heart attack on 15 January 1922, at Grytviken, South Georgia.
