Support from Trusts & Foundations

Grants from charitable trusts and foundations are essential to the National Maritime Museum, Queen's House and Royal Observatory, Greenwich.

Trusts and Foundations 3The NMM receives support from trusts and foundations around the world. Organisations in the USA can contribute in dollars to The American Fund of the National Maritime Museum and Royal Observatory, Greenwich, which has full 501(c)(3) status.

Below are some recent examples of the ways trusts and foundations have assisted the Museum’s work:

Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust

A generous grant by the Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust has enabled the Royal Observatory to develop the Excellence in Science Initiative. John Templeton Foundation

Corporate Sponsorship 1Royal Observatory Telescope Dome A generous grant allowed the Royal Observatory to host a Views on Creation lecture and dinner by the on 27 May 2009. The 2008 Templeton Prize winner cosmologist and Catholic priest Professor Michael Heller, sought to tackle the challenges involved in reconciling religion with the fast-moving world of 21st century science. The lecture was chaired by Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell, astronomer and Trustee of the Museum, who also facilitated the post- lecture question and answer session.

A private dinner followed in the historic Octagon Room in Flamsteed House, which provided an opportunity for leading individuals from the UK’s scientific and religious communities to discuss the evening’s subject further with Professor Heller. If you would like to find out more about this Lecture, you can view a recording online and add your comments.
