What's my role?

The roles, duties and even location of a ship's crew changed depending on whether the ship was at anchor, in battle, or just sailing.

A large and important ship like the Nelson, which had about 120 guns, would have had approximately 1,000 men.

They would be split into different working shifts or ' watches' of four hours each, night and day.

Running a ship like this was a huge and complex operation.
