The Rough Guide to Accessing London

The National Maritime Museum (NMM) has been voted as one of London's 50 favourite accessible venues. A number of venues throughout the capital including museums, galleries, theatres, restaurants and shops were voted for by disabled people from around the UK.

The venues were revealed by Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London and Julie Fernandez, spokesperson for the Disability Rights Commission and star of The Office, at the launch of the Rough Guide to Accessing London.

The guide is published by Rough Guides Ltd and sponsored by Transport for London and BBC London and marks the final event in a series that began during European Year of Disabled People in 2003.

The final venues voted for were checked by a Rough Guides researcher and a panel of disabled people. Acting as 'mystery shoppers', they assessed each venue's accessibility according to a range of criteria.

The review of the NMM describes the visit as 'enjoyable and accessible' with exhibits that are 'imaginatively designed and laid out'.
