Ahead of the Insight Astronomy Photographer of the Year winners announcement on 17 September, we’re catching up with the competition judges. We talked to them about the competition and why they want to be involved.

Jon Culshaw

Jon Culshaw is a comedian, impersonator and a regular guest on The Sky at Night. Jon writes the monthly 'Exoplanet Excursions' column for Sky at Night Magazine. He was also a judge on the 2013 panel of the Royal Society 'Winton Prize for Science Books'.

"Everything surrounding astronomy and space exploration is developing so quickly now. The discoveries that are being made are astonishing and the competition is charting that visually, in a breath-taking way. Anybody can try it and all the images are just miraculous – and every year they become more miraculous!"
