Led by a practising artist, this creative and thought-provoking session empowers children to ask questions about a fascinating contemporary artwork.

Bringing the kids? As we build our exciting new Exploration Wing, the Ahoy! children’s gallery may close at short notice daily, before shutting from 18 April to 27 June. Our popular kids' attraction the Great Map remains open throughout, and there is lots for kids to see and do at Cutty Sark

Inspired by Yinka Shonibare's sculpture Nelson's Ship in a Bottle, it looks at how artists use objects to talk about themes including identity, trade and history.

Children will use a variety of experimental drawing and collage techniques to explore scale, line, pattern and colour. As a finale to the session, the children’s work is dramatically transformed in scale and collated to create a colourful and collaborative, panoramic work to take back to school.

This session can be adapted for Key Stages 1 and 2. Sessions last 90 minutes.
