Don’t tip the ship! Work scientifically to build boats and investigate how much weight can be added to your boat before it sinks.
In this practical investigation, groups will look at the relationship between the surface area of a paper boat and the amount of mass it can hold before it sinks. The groups should find that the boats with the larger surface area should hold the most mass before it sinks. They may even be able to spot a quantitative relationship –double the surface area can hold double the amount of mass before sinking.
