Cutty Sark Research and Enquiries

How can I access the Cutty Sark collections and archives?

You are welcome to visit the Cutty Sark Archive, which has a collection of images, paper records and other memorabilia.

Full crew lists for the period 1870–95 can be found in S.F. Bailey’s book The Crews of Cutty Sark, London, 1989. This book is available to view in the Caird Library, National Maritime Museum. This information is drawn from the original crew lists held at The National Maritime Museum. If you are interested in viewing the original documents, please visit The National Maritime Museum online collections archive.

More assistance in tracing ancestors who served in the Merchant Navy can be found in the Cutty Sark Research Guide.

Please note that we have very limited information about the crews during the period of Portuguese ownership 1895–1922.

To make an appointment, phone +44 (0)20 8858 2698 or email enquiries@cuttysark.org.uk.
