Following a fantastic concert with conductor James Morgan and jazz trumpeter Tom Gardner to celebrate the Cutty Sark’s 149th birthday in November 2018, BBC Singers return with another cultural blend of music to kickstart Cutty Sark Theatre's programme for 2019's Cutty Sark 150 celebrations.

Dates Available:

Friday 08 March 2019

To mark Cutty Sark's 150th anniversary, Cutty Sark Theatre will be hosting an array of performances and events through 2019-2020 to celebrate her history. Kickstarting this year of cultural delights, BBC Singers will be returning with a second concert to celebrate Cutty Sark's place in trade history and her many connections across the globe that make her such an iconic national treasure to this very day.

World music fusion band Kabantu collaborates with the BBC Singers to explore music that exists beyond boundaries. Bringing together music celebrating the Cutty Sark’s trade routes from multiple countries and eras, it is set to be a voyage full of energy and excitement!

Kabantu is a quintet from Manchester who unravels new marriages of music from around the globe to celebrate the space where different cultures meet. The BBC Singers are an exciting vocal group who perform everything from sacred vocal music to world premieres by composers such as Laura Mvula. Both groups have performed at an array of venues and festivals across the UK and beyond including the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, but this is the first season they perform at a ship.

Prepare to be amazed by the unique coming together of musical styles in an unexpected location.
