Capturing Colour

Monday 13th

Ages 8-13 with 1 parent per family

Today’s course focuses on finding the colour in our every day surroundings and capturing it through our camera lenses creatively.  Our students will learn how to use camera mechanics such as aperture and shutter speed to make their images pop and we will visit the Museum’s Great British Seaside photography exhibition to view Martin Parr’s colourful seaside images to inspire us. Our students will finish the day with a colourful set of inspiring images.

Looking for Landscapes

Wednesday 15th

Ages 8-13 with 1 parent per family

Our students will learn how to capture landscapes in today’s course, though understanding camera settings and composition. We will visit the Museum’s Great British Seaside photography exhibition to view Simon Roberts’ landscape images, and discuss how the images can help us create our own inspiring landscapes. We will go over key compositional tools, and discuss how the aperture and camera settings will influence our images. Our students will finish the day with a great set of well thought out landscape images.

People and Portraits

Saturday 18th

Ages 8-13 with 1 parent per family

It’s all about finding the right timing and composition in today’s course. Our students will learn how to look for a photo in their surroundings, and how to capture people at their best. We will visit the Museum’s Great British Seaside photography exhibition to view David Hurn’s inspiring images, discussing his documentary approach and how we can reflect it in our own images. Our students will learn how to photograph in black and white and how aperture and focus affects their portraits. Our students will finish the day with a set of images taken both in a studio setting and outdoors, showing off their new knowledge of portraiture and light.
