Essential information

Royal Observatory, Meridian Line and Historic Royal Observatory, In Greenwich

The Greenwich Meridian Trail is a 273-mile walk across the length of England, via the historic Greenwich Meridian Line at the Royal Observatory.

If you’re an experienced walker and relish a challenge, then why not dust off your hiking boots and walk the Greenwich Meridian Line. Created in 2009 to coincide with the 125th anniversary of the Greenwich Meridian, this 273-mile walk starts in Peacehaven in East Sussex and ends at the coast in Sand Le Mere in East Yorkshire.

After 67 miles, the walk passes directly through the Prime Meridian at the Royal Observatory, where you can stop off and marvel at this historic attraction.
