USA Naval ensign
Part of the naval ensign of USS 'Chesapeake', captured in action with HMS 'Shannon', on 1 June 1813. A fragment only remains - the canton of the ensign with 15 stars and two stripes. The blue canton the red stripe and the hoist is silk, the white stripe and stars are cotton. The flag is hand sewn. There are netting repairs at the hoist.
