Documents relating to Captain James Cook including various drafts
Five documents including drafts of sections of James Cook's 'Narrative' of the second voyage, 1772-1775. The drafts are in Cook's hand and feature sections crossed out and annotations in the margins: draft of the historical introduction; draft of the account of the stay at St Helena on the return; draft summary of log of the RESOLUTION, 24 November 1772 to March 1775; letter from James Smith to Captain Thomas Huskisson, 12 February 1836, on the origin of the above papers (though this does not explain their provenance or say how they were acquired); draft proclamation to the chiefs of Zumerun, 1801.
