Maritime adventures await in this playful and immersive gallery for under 7s!

The AHOY! Children's Gallery is the perfect place for little explorers with big imaginations.

The gallery includes playful elements tailored for different ages, from sensory areas and role play for babies and toddlers to interactive displays and activities for older children. Whether firing cannons or hiding in the cabins, hauling on ropes or stoking the boilers, there are plenty of ways to let off steam!

AHOY! is just one part of a fantastic family day out at the National Maritime Museum. The gallery will reopen on Saturday 7 June, and tickets will be available soon. We can't wait to welcome your kids in to explore!

Reopening information

The AHOY! Children's Gallery will be open from Saturday 7 June 2025, along with the refurbished central courtyard of the National Maritime Museum. Entry will be FREE and walk-up only for the opening weekend.

Tickets for all other time slots will be on sale for Members and the general public soon.

Check the information below for full details including prices, time slots and facilities.

Five top tips

  1. The AHOY! Children’s Gallery is ticketed during weekends and school holidays. Families can book a guaranteed entry time and avoid the need to queue. Each session lasts for 45 minutes.
  2. Tickets cost £5 per child with one adult included. Children under six months are free. Your ticket also includes free entry to the National Maritime Museum.
  3. Entry is free during weekdays during term time, but we still recommend booking in advance to guarantee entry. A limited number of sessions during term time are reserved for school visits only: check availability online to avoid disappointment.
  4. There’s a buggy park nearby and easy access to all the facilities you need to have a stress-free visit. The Ocean Court Café on the first floor of the Museum is a quick lift ride away.
  5. Royal Museums Greenwich Members get free entry all year round. Members need to book in advance and should inform the Bookings team if they can no longer attend their session, as there is limited capacity in the space. Find out more about Family Membership here.

You can book tickets online or in person at our admission desks. Royal Museums Greenwich Family Members can book tickets online using their dedicated booking link. On the day you'll need to show your ticket on your phone or bring a printed copy with you.

Tickets will go on sale Wednesday 4 June and you can book up to two months in advance. Members enjoy early access: tickets will go on sale from Monday 2 June.

Tickets on the day are subject to availability and advance booking is highly recommended.

Can I book on the day?

Yes, you can book in person at our admission desks subject to availability. Due to the popularity of the gallery however, we recommend that you book in advance online.

I'm trying to book but cannot see the time slot I want. What's wrong?

A limited number of time slots during term time weekdays are unavailable in order to facilitate our schools programme. If a session is sold out then the time slot will also be unavailable. Please check availability online before you visit to avoid disappointment.

What happens if my plans change?

Your ticket applies for your booked time slot only. Read the full terms and conditions for tickets

I'm a Museum Member. How do I cancel my tickets?

Please email bookings@rmg.co.uk in advance of your visit date. The team can then release your tickets for other families to book.

Can I exit and re-enter the gallery during the timed slot I have booked for?

Yes. You can enter and exit the gallery as many times as you like within your time slot. Ticket holders do not have to re-queue for entry.

What happens if I’m running late?

Each session lasts for 45 minutes. You can enter the gallery at any time during your booked session. However, at the end of the indicated time slot you need to leave the gallery so that our team can reset this ahead of the next session.

Can I bring my pram into the gallery?

No, due to capacity constraints inside the gallery you need to leave buggies and prams outside. There is a Buggy Park adjacent to AHOY!, plus lockers and cloakroom at the Parkside entrance of the Museum.

Can over 7s visit the gallery?

Yes, but you must book a ticket as gallery capacity is limited. The gallery is designed for children aged 0-7, but older children can still enjoy the experience.

What can I do if AHOY! is fully booked?

Due to the popularity of the gallery, we recommend that you book in advance.

If AHOY! is fully booked on the day of your visit, there are many other family-friendly galleries and activities across Royal Museums Greenwich.

Is there a maximum number of adults per booking?

A ticket includes one child and one accompanying adult (entry for the accompanying adult is free). Due to capacity limitations we ask that families try to limit the number of additional adults visiting the gallery, to allow as many families as possible to enjoy the gallery space. Additional adults and children are charged at £5 at weekends, bank holidays and school holidays.
