Barlow describes the danger of sailors' work during a storm, and is angered by the difficulty of their lives compared with those who live on land, and the poor rewards they earn. They arrive at Genoa, a beautiful city and great trading centre, particularly with Portugal and Spain. Spain pays annual interest to Genoa for money lent to fit out their Armada fleet.
