The bank and the sea : the Royal Bank of Scotland Group and the finance of shipping since 1753 /David Souden.
The first edition of this book was published in 2003 to mark the 250th anniversary of the bank's involvement in the shipping industry. This second edition is updated and revised to the end of 2005. The Royal Bank of Scotland's shipping heritage dates back to the foundation of Glyn, Mills & Co in 1753 and of Williams Deacon's Bank by shipowners in 1771. The book details the history of shipping finance through the time of the East India Company, the age of empire, the industrial age, the era of steam and sail and the growth of international trade. A genealogy of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group shows constituent banks of the Group that are mentioned in the text.
