At last, the Museum has announced the exhibition we've been working on for quite a while. It's going to be called Ships, Clocks & Stars: the Quest for Longitude and will open to the public on 11 July 2014.

Life in the Ocean Representing the Usual Occupations of the Young Officers in the Steerage of a British Frigate at Sea

The exhibition will draw on our research project to trace the longitude story from the seventeenth through to the mid-nineteenth centuries. Along the way, we'll take in London's coffee-houses, Captain James Cook's Pacific voyages and some of the successful and unsuccessful attempts to tackle the longitude problem. Naturally we'll be talking about John Harrison, Nevil Maskelyne and others, but hopefully you'll find some less familiar stories there too. Expect to hear more as things progress.
