Barlow prepares to go to sea as apprentice to the chief master's mate on the NASEBY.

Barlow does not wish to be apprenticed to a waterman, and so his uncle obtains a place for him on the NASEBY through a contact in the Navy Office. He signs his indentures as apprentice to the Chief Master's Mate.
