The ship encounters bad weather near Gibraltar, and the anchor and its cable are lost. Water and food run short.
Barlow's ship sets sail for Lisbon, and encounters two dolphins who swim alongside. Bad weather forces the ship towards Gibraltar, where they cannot weigh the anchor and are forced to cut the cable and lose it. They run short of provisions, and have to drink a mixture of sour wine and stinking water and eat salty food.
