The MONKE captures a small fishing vessel and gets a new foremast. Barlow learns that several relatives and friends have died of the plague.
The fleet sets sail again for Holland, where they capture a number of enemy ships, but the English HECTOR is sunk by a squall. The MONKE takes a fishing vessel, but it has no valuable cargo on board. Barlow is grief-stricken to learn that his brother and other friends and relatives have died of the plague in London.
