[The preceding four pages of the diary are missing]. A Dutch ship is taken, and Barlow fires one piece of cannon at it. The fleet sees the Dutch ships as it steers towards Dover, but the weather prevents an engagement. The MONKE winters at Chatham and the men receive meagre rations to eat. The Purser withholds some of their pay and they complain to the Commissioners. Barlow laments this abuse of sailors. Unusual fish called garfish are seen in the river at Chatham this winter.
