A cargo of pepper is taken on board at Pannanie. Barlow describes the local customs, such as Devil worship and the chewing of betel nut.
After seeing a waterspout at sea they arrive at Tannanore, then proceed to Pannanie to load pepper. Barlow describes the local practice of Devil worship, and the custom of chewing betel nuts. The people are hostile to strangers, but prefer the English to the Dutch. The ship takes a cargo of pepper on board.
