The EXPERIMENT encounters a fleet of Dutch ships in the Straits of Bangka. Outnumbered, they surrender and the Dutch plunder the ship.
Master Cook, a wealthy merchant, dies and is buried at sea. While passing through the Straits of Bangka a fleet of eight Dutch ships blocks their way. The EXPERIMENT clears for battle, uncertain whether England is at war with Holland. Outnumbered, they surrender to the Dutch, who plunder the ship. Barlow manages to save some of his gold.
