Barlow feels unwell with a stomach pain. Near Ireland they hear news that Holland is at peace with England but still at war with France. They sight Shotlande [Shetland] and meet Dutch men-of-war looking out for their fleet. Men are sent on board their ship to help pump out the serious leak.
