Barlow sails to Bengal as a passenger on the RECOVERY. At Hooghly he gets a place as chief mate on the East Indiaman the KENT, bound for England.

Barlow compares the local people to Moors. He joins the RECOVERY, bound for Bengal, as a passenger. They reach the Ganges and sail up it towards Hooghly, where Barlow goes to the East India Company's factory. He is found a place as Chief Mate on the Company's ship the KENT.
