The KENT takes on board a cargo of 130 tons of pepper. They watch a performance by local people which includes fire-breathing.
The East India Company factory at Calicut (now known as Kozhikode) has no pepper for the KENT, but they obtain a cargo of 130 tons from a factory in Thalassery, which is thrown loose into the hold. Barlow describes the local produce. He sees a show performed by local people, with ingenious tricks such as fire-breathing.
