Essential Information

The National Archives have just launched a new collection of digitised records: the service registers of around 110,000 Royal Marines who joined between 1842 and 1936.

The collection allows you to search for ordinary seamen (not officers) by name, register number, and date of enlistment. As with other records in documents online you have to pay to see an image of the service register itself. However it's free to search the database and view the key information, thus saving you many an hour at the National Archives and making your family history research just that little bit easier.
