Early in the morning of 12 August, two of our brightest planets, Venus and Jupiter will appear close together in the early sky. This will be a rare chance to observe two of our brightest planets side by side.
Venus will outshine Jupiter with its white glow, while Jupiter will appear more golden. With a small telescope or a pair of binoculars, you might able to see Jupiter’s banded atmosphere and its four Galilean moons.
Join us online with Royal Observatory Astronomer Dr Gregory Brown as we delve deeper into how this close encounter can be made possible.
