Two letters to his wife, relating to the taking of Gibraltar. The first letter (FFX/6/2/1), written just before the battle, mentions that Fairfax has left his Will with Captain Whittaker. The second, (FFX/6/2/2 in 2 pages) written six days later, relates that Gibraltar has fallen to a squadron of 20 ships under Rear Admiral Byng, of which Fairfax in BERWICK was a part. [Including the envelope (FFX/6/2/2A), these letters are in 14 separate parts, having been torn to pieces and the second letter is incomplete], July 1704.
