In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

The East Country Merchants, having a contract to supply hemp, tar, pitch. Masts and plank, have insisted on having a clause in their contracts that the tallies in the Treasurers hands should not have the new impositions imposed upon them for goods they shall import. We ask the Lords of the Treasury to give us the opportunity to visit them about this matter as soon as possible. Meeting with the Lords of the Treasury on 19 May 1694 resolved to send Mr Taylor to attend their Lordships with other merchants to resolve the matter. Letter initialled only.
