Steamers to the Kyles of Bute / Andrew Clark.
"Companion volume to his other three Steamers to books this time we head off to the Argyll coast and the Kyles of Bute which have inspired awe and a sense of wonder in travellers for over 200 years, one of 'earth's glories' as the author describes it, and for a bonus 'you don't need to travel far. It's on our doorstep'. Using sepia and colour rare images from his vast personal collection of Clyde steamers material, Andrew tells the story of shipping through the Kyles. Locations featured are Tighnabruaich, Ormidale, Auchenlochan, Loch Striven, Colintraive, Rhubaan, Toward and Rhubodach."--Provided by the publisher.

Steamers to Ayrshire
"In sepia and in full colour this latest collection from self-dubbed 'steamer dreamer' Andrew Clark deals with the Clyde steamers that plied to and from Ayrshire ports. The heyday of this pleasure cruising was the 1890s to the 1950s when dozens of different steamers were involved. Today only the Waverley continues the tradition of departing from Ayrshire and heading off in all directions. This companion volume to the author's other three Steamers to titles is, like them, illustrated from his extensive collection of rare and unusual steamer images. Locations featured in the book are Ardrossan's Winton Pier, Largs, Ailsa Craig, Ayr, Portencross, Fairlie, Irvine, Troon and Girvan."--Provided by the publisher.

The world in a box : the story of an eighteenth-century picture encyclopedia /Anke te Heesen ; translated by Ann M. Hentschel.
"This is a story about a box that contained the world. The box was the Picture Academy for the Young, a popular encyclopedia in pictures invented by preacher-turned-publisher Johann Siegmund Stoy in eighteenth century Germany. Children were expected to cut out the pictures from the Academy, paste them onto cards, and arrange those cards in ordered compartments - the whole world filed in a box of images."--Back cover.

Hayes' boatyard, Stony Stratford : boats built far from the water's edge /Alison Leighton.
"As the title suggests the boatyard's location was unlikely, being a mile from the nearest water if you don't count the kitchen tap. The yard was also known as Watling's on account of it being on Watling Street in Stony Stratford, Buckinghamshire. It dated from 1862 when a nearby concern moved to Crewe leaving skilled manpower behind and creating the commercial opportunity. Hayes' yard built boats for over 50 years, exported all over the world, and at its height had 90 employees. Although the photographs in the book are of mixed quality they are all extremely interesting and accompanied by informative captions."--Provided by the publisher.

Ships of the Chester River / Richard Martin.
"Ships of the Chester River is the history of more than 600 vessels that were launched after 1800 in the Dee estuary, in Chester and north Wales, and the families and companies that built them. Although the industry on the Dee was not on the scale of that on the neighbouring Mersey estuary, ship building was a significant business in both Chester and the Dee ports throughout the nineteenth century. This is the first book to be published on this subject, and reveals the great variety of Chester River vessels which sailed all over the world, serving in many different and interesting roles."--Provided by the publisher.
