P33942; A starboard broadside view of a Malay dhow moored at Singapore. She is a two masted vessel with typical dhow lateen sails furled up and with a long horizontal bowsprit. A small sampan is alongside aft. The photographer was at Singapore on four occasions during 1937 and 1938: 9 April to 1 May 1937, 13 January to 26 February 1938, 9 March to 23 March 1938 and 17 September to 30 September 1938.

P34283; An head and shoulders portrait of Lieutenant David Watkin Waters RN on the deck of the heavy cruiser Cumberland (1926) while he was taking passage from Singapore to Portsmouth. He is wearing an open necked, short sleeve shirt. The Cumberland (1926) sailed from Singapore on 30 September 1938 and arrived at Portsmouth 1 November 1938, having called at Colombo, Aden, Ismailia, Malta and Gibraltar en route.

P34397; A port bow view, taken from wide off the bow, of the three masted Shantung trader type junk 750 under sail at Tsingtao. She is laden and her port number 750 is painted twice on her hull. She has single lug sails set at each mast and her boat is stowed on deck ahead of the mainmast. the tip of her mainmast is just out of the picture. Negatives numbers P34395 to P34397 are of this junk.

She has a lug sail hoisted at her mizzen mast; the remainder of her sails are stowed. A small boat is alongside. The photographer's ship was at Weihaiwei in the periods 3 June to 21 July 1937, 14 to 17 August 1937, 6 September to 7 October 1937, 8 June to 12 August 1938 and 20 August to 4 September 1938. She is a three masted vessel and her mizzen mast is lashed in the starboard corner of the poop. Her lug sails are stowed and she has occuli on her bow. Her port number is painted twice on her hull and another number, possibly T1213H, can also be faintly seen. Four storey flat roofed buildings are on the wharf are in the background.

P34047; A port very near broadside viewtaken from just ahead of the beam, of a two masted trader type junk under sail at Penang. She has a raking stem, an occuli on her bow and an awning rigged aft. She has two lug sails set, is listing slightly to port and her aft hold is open. Her port number is P.194. The photographer was at Penang from 28 February to 7 March 1938. Negatives numbers P34044 to P34048 inclusive are of the same vessel.

P34566; A slightly distant starboard bow view of the Amoy trader type junks T485H and T971H anchored together at Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong. Their sails are stowed and they both have occuli on the bow. T485H is the vessel on the left and T971H is to port of her. Other junks are in the background. Negatives numbers P34566 to P34568 are of this pair of vessels and were taken on the same occasion.

Some of her crew are sculling. The photographer's ship was at Weihaiwei in the periods 3 June to 21 July 1937, 14 to 17 August 1937, 6 September to 7 October 1937, 8 June to 12 August 1938 and 20 August to 4 September 1938. The horizon is not level.

The photographer was in the area in the following periods: 6 to 28 May 1937; 14 October 1937 to 8 January 1938; 14 April to 4 June 1938 and 8 to 12 September 1938. Negative number P34183 is a stern view of the vessel on the grid.

She has the number 5 painted on either side of her transom. The top of her mainmast is just out of the picture. The photographer's ship was at Tsingtao in the periods 22 July to 13 August 1937 and 17 August to 5 September 1937. A vertical format negative. Negative number P34383 is a very similar image.

P34518; A close port near broadside view, taken from ahead of the beam, of the forepart of a fully rigged model of the Antung trader type junk number 953. The model has a foremast, a mainmast and two mizzen masts sited to port and starboard at the stern but everything aft of the mainmast is out of the picture. It is now part of the NMM collection with the reference AAE0201. Negatives numbers P34513 to P34515 and P34518 are of the model of Antung trader 953.

An awning is rigged aft, a sampan is alongside and five or six cylindrical net containers are hanging over the stern rail. The port number 3098 is painted on her stern. Negatives numbers P34018 to P34020 inclusive are of the same junk.

An occuli and the vessel's port number are painted on the port bow and the number X008 is painted in a circle on the flat bow. 3975 is a two masted craft and her port number and an occuli are on the port bow.
