The photographer is standing at the stern looking forward showing the completed hull including the basic fitting for the heel of the single mast. The photographer was in the area on four occasions: 6 to 28 May 1937; 14 October 1937 to 8 January 1938; 14 April to 4 June 1938 and 8 to 12 September 1938.

P34285; A port broadside view of the Indian kotia type dhow Karimi (fl.1938) anchored at Colombo, Ceylon. She has awnings rigged amidships and aft and a small boat is alongside amidships. Other kotias and the Royal Navy heavy cruiser Cumberland (1926) are in the background. The photographer was taking passage in the Cumberland (1926) from Singapore to the U.K. at the time.

P34306; On board an Indian kotia type dhow anchored at Colombo, Ceylon. The photographer is looking aft and to port from the starboard side of the waist abreast the foremast showing the ship's boat on deck in the starboard waist. In the centre behind a crewman is the foremast halyard sheave block in front of the poop accommodation opening. The mainmast is stepped on the poop deck and behind it are a capstan and the ship's wheel.

P34460; A bow view of two Ningpo fisher type junks anchored side by side at Weihaiwei. They are two masted vessels and the tops of the mainmasts are out of the picture. They both have occuli on the bows. The photographer's ship was at Weihaiwei in the periods 3 June to 21 july 1937, 14 to 17 August 1937, 6 September to 7 october 1937, 8 June to 12 August 1938 and 20 August to 4 September 1938. A vertical format negative.

P33931; A stern view of two Tongkung type junks moored bow-on to the shore at Singapore. Although ketch rigged, both vessels appear to have the mainmast removed and the vessel on the right does not have a gaff on the mizzen mast. They both have a mizzen boom and an awning rigged aft of the mizzen mast. Both vessels have a name on the transom, the one on the left may be Kim G Peng or something similar.

The photographer is on the port side amidships looking aft showing her mainsail stowed fore and aft and covered with matting. Her mizzen mast is on the port side of the stern and its lug sail is stowed. Negatives numbers P34427 to P34429 are of this vessel and taken on the same occasion.

P34409; A close view of the sterns, taken from off the starboard quarter, of the Antung trader type junks 2991 and 1792 moored with other junks at Tsingtao. They both have a ladder hanging over the stern rail and their mizzen sails are stowed fore and aft. Their mast tops are out of the picture. The photographer was in the area between the periods 22 July to 13 August 1937 and 17 August to 5 September 1937. Negatives numbers N34408 and N34411 also include junk 1792.

The photographer is on the starboard side of the waist close to the foredeck looking forward and to port into the forecastle deck house showing a hand operated bilge pump in the foreground. A man is sitting in the crew accommodation. Negatives numbers P34519 to P34540 are all of this vessel taken on the same occasion.

P34345; A close view of the sails of a fully rigged model of the Pechili trader type junk number 1510, taken from off the starboard quarter looking forward and to port, at the Roman Catholic Church at Liu Kung Tao, near Weihaiwei. The model has a quarter sail, a port side studding sail, a mainsail, a main topsail, a staysail and a foresail set. It is now part of the NMM collection with the reference AAE0160. P34468; A slightly distant starboard quarter view of the two masted Tsungming cotton trader junk 10143 under sail on the Whangpu River at Shanghai. She has two tall masts with an elongated rectangular sail hoisted to full height on each mast. Each sail has 18 bamboo battens. The junk has a leeboard deployed amidships. A two masted junk and a deep sea cargo steamship are in the background. Negative number P34467 is also of this vessel.

Her port number is painted on the starboard bow and she has a boat suspended over the side amidships
