Edmund Halley A.P.R
Sir Edmund Halley, 1656-1742, the second Astronomer Royal at the Royal Observatory Greenwich. As a young man of 19 Halley began working with Flamsteed, the first Astronomer Royal, assisting him with observations both at Oxford and at Greenwich. In 1720 he succeeded Flamsteed as Astronomer Royal, a position he was to hold for 21 years despite being 64 years old when appointed.
