British War Medal 1914-18

Captain John Cockburn Jessop Teague RMLI (1882-1915). was commissioned on 1 September 1900. In civil life he was a London barrister. He retired from the Royal Marines on 1 February 1913 but remained on the reserve list. After the outbreak of war, he was recalled to service on 1 August 1914. He was second in command of A-Company, Portsmouth Battalion at the defence of Antwerp where he was wounded. On 4 May 1915 he was killed in action at the Dardanelles where he is commemorated on the Helles Memorial. There is also a wall tablet at Holy Trinity, Exmouth, Devon where his father John Jessop Teague was vicar from1894-1905.
