In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

Enclosure: Copy of a letter from Viscount Sydney, Master General of Ordnance, in which he refers to proposals for increasing the usefulness of HM Bomb Vessels made by the Admiralty and relates that persons belonging to HM Ordnance have visited Deptford in order to survey the vessels there and gives his opinion that the existing mortar beds at present located in the bottom of the holds should be reconstructed at a level two feet below the level of the deck so that they may traverse as in other situations. He also advocates the fixing of a capstan on the focsle, together with some modifications to the holds for storing shells. He concludes by asking for notice of any impending alterations so that Ordnance personnel may attend in order to oversee the operation.
