Can you design a poster to tell us all about some of the incredible women in our collection?

We’ve made a poster to celebrate Grace Darling and her daring sea rescue. You can find out more about Grace Darling here:

Step 1

The first thing your poster needs is a title to attract people's attention. You might like to use your person's name or maybe a way to describe them.

We’ve chosen the title ‘Daring Women’.

Mark out your letters in pencil first to make sure they fit before you colour them in!

Step 2

A poster needs a good image. What is the story you’re trying to tell?

In Grace Darling's story she lives in a lighthouse when on a stormy evening she spots the shipwreck of the Forfarshire and has to row out in a small rowing boat to rescue the survivors. We might want to include an image of Grace, a lighthouse and a rowing boat.

Can you draw some of the elements you’ll need to tell the story?

Step 3

Cut out all of your drawings and arrange them on your poster. Leave a little bit of space at the bottom of the poster.

Once you’re happy with how your cut out pieces look, make sure you stick them down.

Step 4

Next you need to give the viewer a little bit more information about the person your poster celebrates.

We wanted to tell people a little bit more about Grace's rescue mission so we included the date, the place and how many people she rescued.

Add this text to the bottom of your poster.

Step 5

There are lots of daring women in history – can you think of some more to make another poster for?
