During 2020 and 2021, we have been working with Age Exchange to develop reminiscence resources for people living with dementia. These resources have been inspired by the travel journal collection held at the Caird Library and have stimulated people's own memories connected to travel and migration.
Project participants have created their own visual interpretations of their memories and have contributed an overwhelming amount of artwork to the National Maritime Museum for display.
The artwork was developed with different groups, both online and in person, during workshops facilitated by specialist reminiscence arts practitioners at Age Exchange.
The artwork showcases people's memories of holidays, places they visited for work and places where they grew up or migrated from. The collection is a powerful representation of the creativity, independence and resilience of people living with dementia.
The project has been funded by the Esmee Fairburn and Museums Association Collection Fund
