Join Royal Observatory Greenwich astronomers for a unique stargazing experience as Evening with the Stars returns!
Gain exclusive access to the Royal Observatory and take part in a special evening of astronomy in this unique Museum late event.
The night begins with a live planetarium show, introducing you to the wonders of the solar system. Lie back in reclining seats and watch as the dome above you fills with stunning simulations and space photography.
Then, after sunset and weather permitting, you'll be able to get hands-on with a modern telescope and explore the night sky in the company of working Observatory astronomers.
Visitors will also be taken on a private tour of a piece of scientific history: the 130-year-old Great Equatorial Telescope, the largest instrument at the Royal Observatory. Discover its special place in the history of British astronomy.
Even if the weather isn't playing nice, you'll still be able to enjoy talks from our astronomers on the history and legacy of the Royal Observatory, and ask everything you've ever wanted to know about astronomy during an exclusive evening tour.
A selection of hot drinks will be available, included in the price of your ticket.
So wrap up warm, and don't miss your chance to spend a night under the stars at Royal Observatory Greenwich.

Important information
Unfortunately, due to the technical challenges associated with the historical nature of the telescope, we will not be able to observe through the Great Equatorial Telescope this season. However, visitors will still enjoy exclusive evening access and a special tour, plus an observing session using modern telescopes led by real astronomers.
Refunds or rescheduling due to poor weather will not be offered, but Observatory staff will provide dedicated talks and tours should outdoor observing sessions not be possible.
This event is not suitable for families with young children, and has an age restriction of 7+.
There are some areas of the historic Observatory buildings that are only accessible via stairs, including the Great Equatorial Telescope dome. Please contact the Bookings team on 020 8312 6608 or email bookings@rmg.co.uk if you wish to discuss accessibility needs.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get to this event?
As the Observatory is located inside Greenwich Park, access is restricted after the Park has closed.
- If you are attending a session that begins before the Park closes, you can make your own way to the Observatory as normal.
- If you are attending a session that begins after the Park has closed, access is only possible via minibus picking up from St Mary's Gate (at the northwest end of the Park). Visitors should head to the gate where a minibus will be waiting to take them up to the Observatory.
For all sessions, exit from the Park is only possible via St Mary's Gate, again by minibus.
Please be aware that the minibus is not wheelchair accessible. If you need to make alternate arrangements, please contact Bookings at bookings@rmg.co.uk or call 0208 312 6608.
All of this information, including detailed access instructions and Park opening times, are available for download below and will also be included with your ticket.
When should I arrive?
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the event starts. Remember that the Observatory is located at the top of a steep hill, so allow enough time to walk if your session begins during Greenwich Park opening hours.
How long will this event last?
The entire event, including the planetarium show, telescope session and Great Equatorial Telescope tour, will last around two hours.
What should I wear?
Sections of the evening take place outside, so we recommend wearing warm, waterproof clothing. There are no lights inside Greenwich Park, so you may wish to bring a torch with you.
Are companion/carer tickets available?
Companions to disabled visitors are entitled to free admission. Please select the ticket type when booking or contact the Bookings Team: call 020 8312 6608 or email Bookings@rmg.co.uk.
