In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
The want of necessaries for the present voyage which my Purser tells me he is not able to raise money to supply unless it is paid immediately on indenting, will be a hindrance to our proceedings. I have no neglect to charge him with as he has always been ready to supply the ship on my request and did last summer, in England and Ireland, disburse between £200 and £300 on fresh provisions for the recovery of the greatest part of the ship's company sick and disabled, and he says this is yet unpaid. I pray you will lay this before their Lordships that this money or what is now due on this indent, may now be ordered to furnish the ship. Signed Captain Gabriel Hughes, Captain of the DEFIANCE.
