Book kept by Robert Gale of different drawings mostly of land they have visited or sailed by also includes drawings of local inhabitants and their boats of Bruny Island in Tasmania. Also Included is a newspaperclipping dated 2 November 1887, titled 'Fernado Noronha' removed to JOD/284/5.

Administrative / biographical background
Robert Gale served as captain's steward on board HMS RATTLESNAKE, commanded by Captain Owen Stanley (1811-50). On board were the scientists and naturalists Thomas Henry Huxley (1825-1895), and John MacGillivray (1821-1867).
