Barlow has a severe illness as a result of his earlier head wound, and convalesces at a cook shop in Whitechapel, where he is put to work.
Barlow becomes very ill from the effects of his head wound, and is sent to the Elephant and Castle tavern in Chatham to recover. Later he lodges at his master's cook shop in Whitechapel and is put to work cleaning, fetching water and drawing beer.
