Barlow joins the pink MAREYGOULD, which sails to Scotland and takes on board a load of herring at Greenock.
Barlow is resigned to his ill-fortune but worried by lack of money. He joins the MAREYGOULD, a pink bound for Glasgow to load pickled herrings. They sail to Ireland, stopping at Kinsale to buy meat. At Greenock they take a load of herring on board. Barlow describes the local fishing industry and trade.
