Photograph of a sketch taken from the book 'Prison Scenes; and Narrative of Escape from France, During the Late War' by Seacome Ellison, published in 1838. The sketch depicts the interior of the Round Tower in the Citadel of Verdun, France, where Charles Hare was imprisoned from 1803 until he was transferred in 1807 to the prison fortress at Sarre Libre (now Saarlouis in Germany).
